On May 23rd, we will be bringing the BAMA exercise and particle physicists to SVHS and demonstrating methods of searching for new particles.
BAMA (Big Analysis of Muons in ATLAS) will involve looking through the visualizations and data of individual particle collision events from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). By selectively filtering out certain regions and extracting important values, we can reconstruct the properties of the massive particles that decay to muons.
Students will use the browser-based HYPATIA 4 Site to perform the exercise. The relevant data gathered will then be logged in a shared spreadsheet via this google form.
